The ERDF contributes to correcting regional imbalances in the European Union.
The ERDF has two main objectives:
- investing in growth and jobs and bringing about European territorial cooperation.
- supporting sustainable city development.
In the period 2014-2020, at least 5% of the ERDF’s budget for each Member State had to be earmarked for integrated action for sustainable urban development to tackle the economic, ecological, climatological, demographic and social challenges that urban areas are faced with.
