The Coordination Group of the European Circular Economy Stakeholder Platform (ECESP) has finalised its work programme sets out the group's priorities for its current mandate and lists the leadership groups that will contribute to their implementation.
Out Now: ECESP Work Programme (2026-2028)
The work programme is structured around four strategic priorities that reflect both developments in the EU policy landscape and stakeholder expectation:.
- Enhance the effectiveness of circular economyThe circular economy is a restorative and regenerative economy. By maintaining the value of the products, materials and resources in the economy through smart product design, repurposing and/or shared use of products, it reduces the extraction of natural resources by using resources already present in the economy. policy tools and business model by translating regulatory developments into practical implementation pathways.
- Accelerate the deployment of the biobased circular economy.
- Contribute to creating a functioning single market for secondary raw materials.
- Strengthen stakeholder networks, peer learning and citizen engagement.
The approach introduces a more horizontal and interconnected architecture that enables medium-term development of topics extending beyond one year.
The five leadership groups will focus on a defined thematic area and translate this work programme into tangible actions, outputs and partnerships:
- LG1: Transitioning to circular value chains
- LG2: Advancing an integrated circular bioeconomy
- LG3: Enabling an inclusive circular society
- LG4: Economic and financing instruments for the circular transition
- LG5: Increasing demand for European circular solutions
Each leadership group provides a stable strategic direction underpinned by the objectives listed above, while allowing flexible “specific topics” to evolve, deepen and scale over time.
The thematic areas are designed to be interdependent and complementary, ensuring a systemic perspective, agility and responsiveness to emerging challenges, while maintaining the coherence and long-term vision of the Coordination Group.
You can find full details on the priorities and objectives of each thematic area in the work programme.
