Discover the Principles of Circular Construction

Circular building is rapidly becoming the next major (r)evolution in the construction sector. But what exactly does it mean — and how can it be applied in practice? The training course “Introduction to Circular Construction”, organised by Pixii and held on 27 November 2025 in Antwerp, offers an opportunity to explore the fundamentals and best practices of this emerging approach.

252 23 Econ Circul Meeting 209439761 16x9

Designing a circular building means thinking about flexibility, durability and the ability to disassemble structures. The goal: to enable component reuseReuse designates all operations by which substances, materials or products that are not waste are used again in an identical way to their originally intended purpose., reduce material consumption and minimise environmental impact. This holistic approach is transforming the way we design, build and renovate.

During this training, participants will gain a comprehensive overview of key concepts such as material passports, circularityCircularity describes the quantity of materials managed in a closed loop. indicators, circular business models and open-source construction. Real-world examples will illustrate how these principles are already being integrated into ongoing projects.

The session will be led by:

  • Jolien Paeleman, engineer-architect specialised in low-carbon construction and bio-based materials
  • Bart Humbeeck, expert in building physics and energy-efficient design.
