Komrads: from apple remnants and ocean waste to sustainable sneakers

Trainers entirely made out of reused materials? Yes! They exist, and they’re made in Belgium. Marketeers Mark Vandevelde and Greet Goegebuer launched the ecological enterprise Komrads.

It was their son who woke Mark Vandevelde and Greet Goegebuer up to this idea and inspired the ecological sneaker brand Komrads. 


Overproduction, overconsumption and disastrous working conditions are putting the fashion industry in a bad light. Only 3% of all shoes are recycled; the rest end up as waste. With three collections made of alternative materials, this couple wants to change that. Their shoes are made of apple leather, recycled cotton or recycled plastic. By keeping production in Europe, they can also guarantee fair employment conditions.
